Health Case Study: ProAire
The Mexican government has created four increasingly ambitious Comprehensive Programs Against Air Pollution since 1990 that include strategies for transport, planning, environmental education, and reforestation.
Specific initiatives include fuel quality standards, a no-driving-day program, bus fleet renewal, subway and bike-sharing expansion, and air monitoring system modernization.
The current program, ProAire IV, contains 81 measures and 116 actions across eight themes.

AIR QUALITY IN MEXICO CITY 2005—2017

Leadership & Replication
Shortly after ProAire II was launched in the Mexico Valley Metropolitan Zone (ZMVM), other zones and states throughout Mexico developed programs.
As of October 2017, there were 20 active ProAire programs at the state level, with 12 others under development. State ProAire programs have inspired a federal program, Megalopolis ProAire 2017-2030.
