The CO2 Timeline tool is designed to help inform the debate on fossil fuel divestment that is happening on campuses across the US. The tool follows a four year pulse of CO2through the atmosphere over the course of a century – you could think of this as the CO2 released while today’s college students are completing their education. The CO2 Timeline Tool is an interactive Excel spreadsheet designed particularly for youth climate leaders.
Using the tool you can input the names and the likely tenure of key administrators who are making decisions about the inclusion of fossil fuel investments in the school’s endowment, and the tool will show the time horizon of these decision makers’ accountability compared to the long duration of carbon dioxide released today. Students can also create their own personal timelines, estimating when key goals in their own lives might unfold and seeing how much of the CO2 released during their college years might still be in the atmosphere.
