American Cities, States, & More Commit to Paris Climate Goals
In the wake of President Trump’s announcement that he will withdrawal the US from the Paris Agreement, hundreds of cities, states, tribes, counties, and universities committed themselves to reducing CO2 emissions in line with the Paris Agreement’s goals to limit climate change. We are putting these commitments on the map.
How do these commitments add up to reducing overall US carbon emissions?
More than half of the US lives in an area that has committed to the Paris climate goals, representing about 37% of the United State’s carbon emissions.
If the cities, counties, and states that have stepped forward to adopt Paris goals are successful, we estimate they will deliver between 20% and 36% of the 2025 emissions reductions that the US overall would have made in achieving its target under the Paris Agreement.
